Round 1 Wrap and Upcoming Events

The opening game of the season saw us take on the re-formed St Pauls Old Scholars at Houghton Memorial Oval.  The day doubled as our Sponsors & Past Players Day and with glorious weather forecast for the weekend, supporters from both sides filled the ground.

The Reserves match was a see-sawing battle, with our superior fitness showing in the third and final quarters, giving us a 17-point win.  Tyson Roling dominated at Centre-Half Forward, while Matt Harrowfield was pivotal in the ruck and Dennis Shanahan a rock in defence.

In the A-Grade game, St Paul’s Old Scholars came out hard in the first quarter and a half, but were inaccurate in front of the big sticks.  Conversely, our boys were kicking straight and had skipped out to a 31-point lead.  The second half proved to be one-way traffic as St Paul’s Old Scholars, decimated by injury, only scored two more goals for the game and the Raiders cruised to a 117-point victory.  Josh Davis and Dave Keetch racked up possessions in the midfield and across half back, while big Alex “Bray-Z” Bray collected six sausage rolls.

Join us this Saturday for Round 2 @ University Oval as our boys taking on last year’s Grand Finalists Adelaide Uni.  The game marks a milestone for A-Grade captain Dave Keetch, who will play his 200th game for the club.

Don’t forget that Round 3 falls on Anzac Day.  We will be playing at home that day and, as hosts, we will be ensuring to make it a special occasion for both players and hosts.  Stay tuned for more details.
